Bulimia Anorexia and Binge Eating Disorders 

We have three most common eating disorders: Bulimia, Anorexia, and BED Binge Eating Disorder. An eating disorder is defined as mental health that leads to uncontrolled food or non-nutrient that can harm our lives. It can affect anyone at any age but mainly occurs in the woman. The causes of an eating disorder can be different. However, they all link to a wrong perception of a body image. Facts about eating disorders provided by research say

  1. 39% of adults in the UK mistakenly believe eating disorders more commonly affect white people.
  2. Six out of ten UK adults mistakenly believe eating disorders mainly affect young people.
  3. 37% of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people say they would not feel more confident seeking help about eating disorders from healthcare professionals than 24% of straight people.
  4. Only 52% of people from minority ethnicities would feel confident asking for help about eating disorders from healthcare professionals – compared to 64% of white British people.
  5. Eating disorders affect 90% of women, many of them young.

Anorexia nervosa

Bulimia Anorexia Binge Eating Disorders

Caused by a high misperception of the body, anorexia nervosa is responsible for 20 to 40% of death for suicide every year. These diseases lead to starvation and extreme exercise. Besides, Anorexia Nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder in adolescence, and for those surviving, 50% recover, whereas 30% improve and 20% remain chronically ill.

How we can spot symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa. People who suffer from Anorexia have specific symptoms and specific behaviour.

  • They skip meals to starvation.
  • Obsessive fear of gaining weight is typical of people with Anorexia Nervosa.
  • Acceptance does not work, and they lie about their diet and weight
  • Social life disappears as they tend to isolate themselves
  • Extreme exercise to lose weight become normal

Consequently, this kind of behaviour and diet will impact any aspect of their life. As soon they are drastically underweight healthy issues related to starvation will affect the body and mind.

  • Difficult to sleep and focus
  • Problem with eyes, bones, and skins related to lack of vitamins and minerals
  • Deficiency-related diseases such as Anemia, Osteoporosis, and others.
  • Alcohol and Substance abuses
  • Suicide and Death

Bulimia consists of devouring a tremendous amount of food and feeling guilty for doing that as they can gain weight.

This remorse associated with the fear of gaining weight brings them to change their behaviour and relate to people. They can eat their food adding somewhere or even isolate them. After that, they use pills, tablets, or even their finger to vomit it to repair what they did. In other words, bulimia shows the following symptoms.

  • Eat a large amount of food in a short time
  • If you become critical versus your body
  • Anxiety is all that you feel when you relate to food
  • The using of any strategy and tools to vomit or poo (this process is called Purge)

Obesity is evident in people who suffer from bulimia or Binge eating disorders. Consequently, health issues are related to obesity and excess nutrients.

  • Legs Problems as they cannot afford to sustain the weight
  • High blood pressure
  • Dry skin
  • Swollen glands
  • Kidney failure

At the bottom of the eating disorders, we find Binge Eating Disorder. That progress is the same as bulimia but is characterised by the absence of purging.
